SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — Upgrading works at junctions along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari are being carried out in phases, with further details on the project’s progress expected on Thursday (October 29).
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the road falls under the Public Works Department (JKR), and its original construction was funded through contributions from developers in the surrounding area.
The project will take time to implement, and details of the upgrading works will be provided, along with a list of initiatives already undertaken.
He also urged the public not to link the project’s implementation to the accident involving a lorry and 11 cars at the Alam Budiman junction on October 9.
The incident appeared to involve drug influence and driver behaviour rather than structural problems with the road.
“The project will take time to implement, and we ask that it not be linked to the recent accident. The incident involved drug influence and the driver’s behaviour, as accidents can happen anywhere,” Izham said.
He was speaking to the media after officiating the Selangor Friends of Rivers Workshop 2026 at the Selangor International Trade Centre in Shah Alam today.
In the incident, two people were reported to be in critical condition, and another two were injured in the accident involving a 10-tonne lorry and 11 cars at the Alam Budiman traffic lights.
Shortly after, the police confirmed that a urine screening found the 51-year-old lorry driver tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Preliminary investigations also found that the driver claimed to have experienced brake problems before losing control while travelling downhill from Puncak Perdana towards Puncak Alam.
On October 12, Selangor JKR announced that it would build an additional lane measuring approximately 300m along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari (B49) to improve road safety and traffic flow at the Alam Budiman junction.
Preliminary works are underway, while physical construction is expected to begin in mid-2027, taking into account the need for utility protection and relocation.
The project, covering the route from Puncak Alam towards Shah Alam, will also include additional street lighting, traffic light upgrades, and other road safety improvements.
Over 200,000 people are understood to use the route daily, including residents of Alam Budiman, Puncak Perdana, Puncak Alam, Saujana Utama, Nusa Rhu, and Setia Alam Section U13.
