SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The state government has launched the Selangor Road and Highway Strategic Plan 2026-2035 (JALUR Selangor), with RM77 billion in funding to ensure smooth traffic management in line with Selangor's latest development.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said 115 proposals for new road and highway construction, as well as upgrades to existing roads and junctions, have been identified under the strategic plan.
“A total of 115 projects have been identified, comprising 35 new road construction projects, 64 projects to upgrade roads from two lanes to four lanes, and 16 junctions that need to be upgraded to improve traffic flow.
“The estimated value of these projects is RM77 billion, and they will not all be funded by the government because some involve highways, which will certainly be financed by concessionaires, while state-related projects will use state government allocations.
“These have been planned over a 10-year period and, if they can be completed, at the very least they can be linked to the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2),” he said during the plan's launch at the State Secretariat Building today.
Amirudin added that JALUR Selangor will also connect the state’s major roads, completing Selangor’s overall physical connectivity.
Under the strategic plan, 12 implementation zones have been identified throughout the state, including Aeropolis 1 (KLIA), Timur 1 (Selayang, Ampang, and Gombak), and Timur 2, covering Kajang, Semenyih, and Cheras.
Meanwhile, state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said Selangor was the first state to prepare a 10-year strategic development plan for roads and highways.
“Any infrastructure development needs to be planned for the long term, and that is why we have prepared this plan. After this, we will also launch an action plan for water, which is expected to be completed next year.
“This plan will show how roads and highways are connected. For example, in Saujana Putra, there is a highway, but it is not connected, resulting in congestion.
“We do not want this, which is why a study has been carried out to determine which roads under the Public Works Department, the federal government, or local authorities need to be newly constructed or upgraded,” he said.
