Kita Selangor Rail to spur investment — UPEN

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — The proposed Kita Selangor Rail line is aimed at spurring investment through integrated developments around its stations, including residential communities, commercial hubs, logistics centres and innovation districts.

Selangor State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) Macro and Privatisation Section principal assistant director Mohammad Iskandar Idris said the project would improve connectivity, support sustainable urban development and strengthen the state’s economic competitiveness.

“This is more than a transport project. It is a catalyst for stronger communities, a more dynamic economy, cleaner and safer environments, and ultimately a more prosperous Selangor for both current and future generations,” he said during his presentation at Selangor Investment Forum (SIF), held as part of Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

Iskandar said the rail line would promote transit-oriented developments (TOD) that integrate homes, offices, commercial centres and amenities around stations.

“Beyond mobility, it will catalyse TOD, unlocking opportunities for urban mixed-use developments, attracting investment and creating integrated, sustainable communities.”

Kita Selangor Rail is a proposed project spanning over 200km linking northern and southern Selangor with key locations in the Klang Valley.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said on August 27 that the initial study for the line has been completed, with the project now moving into the next stage to assess its feasibility and develop suitable financial and business models.

The line was first announced on July 31, 2023, by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari. When tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget, he announced an initial allocation of RM3 million for the project’s feasibility study.

Iskandar said the project will connect major transport infrastructure, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, ECRL, MRT, LRT, and KTM.

“The project will also unlock significant investment and development opportunities, including land value appreciation, commercial growth and strategic urban expansion in high-potential areas,” he added, saying the project aims to improve access to jobs, education and healthcare, promote public transport use, and reduce congestion and carbon emissions.
