PETALING JAYA, Aug 27 — The initial study for the proposed Kita Selangor Rail Line has been completed, with the project now moving into the next stage to assess its feasibility for implementation and develop suitable financial and business models.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the initial stage of the study had provided the state with a clearer understanding of the proposed rail project's direction.

"The initial stage has actually been completed. The study has more or less identified the points, so what is more critical now is the financial model and business model for the Kita Selangor Rail Line," he told the media after launching the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2026 at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel today.

Ng added that the state government is working to determine the project's feasibility and the appropriate financial and business models before moving towards its implementation.

"The focus on the financial and business models is important to determine how the project could be implemented sustainably.

"The state will need to ensure the project's implementation was feasible before determining the next steps," he said.

The Kita Selangor Rail Line is a proposed state government project spanning a 200km-plus network linking northern and southern Selangor with Labu in Negeri Sembilan, including connections to key locations such as Westport and Klang.

The project aims to improve connectivity, ease congestion and support economic growth by linking communities with major industrial, logistics, and transport hubs.

Improving public transport connectivity is also aligned with the state government’s broader development agenda under Selangor Second Plan (RS-2), which places emphasis on balanced development and strengthening economic linkages across Selangor.
