SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The state government today launched the Selangor Rail Industry Hub at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin, Germany, which positions the state as the region’s foremost centre for localised train assembly, system integration, and workforce development.
In a statement today, Invest Selangor Bhd said the initiative was launched at the Malaysian Pavilion during the expo and was officiated by state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han, who also led the delegation to Berlin.
It added that the hub would be built in Taman Perindustrian Zurah in Hulu Selangor, with the first phase to be immediately activated in a 0.3ha built-up space at a SIRIM Bhd site.
“To accommodate scalable growth, Phase 2 will utilise a (7.7ha) land plot adjacent to SIRIM for expanded assembly and testing operations, while Phase 3 establishes a (50.6ha) dedicated rail industrial park located approximately 2km from Phases 1 and 2 to cater to long-term industrial expansion and rising regional demand,” it said.
Invest Selangor said that Selangor, as Malaysia’s rail heartland that is home to flagship projects like the 203km Kita Selangor Rail Line, set up the hub to address ageing asset overhauls, strengthen supply chain resilience, and become ASEAN’s gateway via its direct connection to Port Klang and major rail corridors.
“The hub focuses on four operational activities — local train assembly and testing, (proof-of-concept) and system integration, train simulator development, and supply chain localisation control.
“Human capital development is fortified through the Rail Teaching Factory framework and the Selangor Talent Action Plan for Rail Industry (STAPRI), delivering a certified, cross-system engineering pipeline,” it explained in the statement.
During the launch, SIRIM accepted letters of intent from three industry anchors — MMC Engineering Bhd, Pecca Leather, and Xcel Itech Sdn Bhd — to kick-start core capabilities within the Selangor Rail Industry Hub.
Meanwhile, Ng said the hub is a strategic step to make use of industry opportunities and cement Selangor’s position as a regional engineering mainstay.
“Selangor holds the highest concentration of rail assets in Malaysia, and as these mature assets reach critical operational milestones, we see an immense opportunity to strengthen our capabilities in asset lifecycle management, localised system overhauls and smart digital integration,” he added.
