SHAH ALAM, Oct 4 — The Selangor Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister’s Department will continue handling applications for assistance and contributions from residents in the Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency following the resignation of its MP Lee Chean Chung.
The Star reported that Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the ICU will provide the service alongside the Parti Keadilan Rakyat branch chief, state assemblymen, and city councillors to ensure constituency matters can continue to be handled.
“The Keadilan party branch will coordinate matters...good luck to him (Lee),” he said during the Program MADANI Kita (PMK) Kota Anggerik @ Shah Alam at Dewan Melati, Section 7.
The ICU’s role in handling constituency applications had also been highlighted in June after access to the MyKhas portal for Petaling Jaya and Subang MPs was restricted.
Fahmi added that residents can still submit requests for assistance, with the ICU and Prime Minister’s Department reviewing the applications for approval.
On Friday (October 2), Lee resigned as the Petaling Jaya MP without conditions, following his three-year suspension from Keadilan.
He received the official decision on Wednesday (September 30) and is expected to submit his resignation as a Keadilan member tomorrow).
Lee had also informed Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul of his decision on Thursday (October 1).
Previously, he raised several issues including the proposed Urban Renewal Act, the foreign worker management system, and the Sales and Service Tax, which he claimed was linked to his suspension.
