PUTRAJAYA, Oct 5 — No by-election will be held in the Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency after the seat was declared vacant, said Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.
He said EC received a notification letter dated October 2 from Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul about the unexpected vacancy of the Petaling Jaya seat.
“Based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has informed the EC that there is no need to fill the unexpected vacancy.
“Accordingly, no by-election will be held for P.105 Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency,” he said in a statement today.
On October 2, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung announced his unconditional resignation from the Dewan Rakyat.
