SHAH ALAM, Oct 5 – The Petaling Jaya Parliamentary seat has been officially declared vacant, following the resignation of its MP Lee Chean Chung on Friday (October 2).
Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor informed the seat has been vacated effective immediately on the day Lee tendered his resignation last week.
“Yang Berhormat Petaling Jaya MP has submitted his resignation to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s office on Friday (October 2).
“The Dewan Rakyat Speaker has also informed the Election Commission of the vacated seat according to Article 54(1) of the Federal Consitution.” he said today.
On Friday, Lee announced his resignation after he was informed that the party had suspended his membership for three years.
Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Lee had not attended party meetings or congresses for some time, and had also not been involved in party affairs for about a year.
He also assured that Lee’s resignation would not affect development projects in the area.
