SHAH ALAM, May 19 — Grassroots strength and the people’s fighting spirit continue to serve as the main pillars enabling Pakatan Harapan to remain relevant and resilient within the country’s ever-changing political landscape.
Selangor Harapan chairman Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition’s long experience in building the alliance over the decades has given it a major advantage through its strong grassroots network nationwide.
Every political development and current political dynamic must be examined comprehensively without underestimating any possibility that could affect the party.
“Whatever the political dynamics may be, all leaders need to study them carefully, and we will take every aspect into consideration without taking anything lightly.
“Whether it involves opponents, allies or new elements such as the party joined by Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, we will assess its impact. However, the experience of building a party is not easy,” he told the media after launching the Selangor 2026 Telecommunications Infrastructure Vandalism Prevention Campaign at the Shah Alam Club today.
Amirudin added that Harapan will continue to strengthen its strategies and refine its preparations ahead of the next general election, to ensure public confidence remains intact.
“We believe that with Pakatan Harapan’s decades of experience, we possess strong grassroots networks and strength, in addition to the right strategic approach when the election arrives.
“That is why we must continue working hard, not underestimate any aspect, and remain prepared for all possibilities,” he said.
Commenting on party discipline, the Gombak MP emphasised that any leader or member who no longer remains loyal and takes actions that weaken the organisation must be accountable for their decisions.
“If there are those who are no longer loyal to the party or take actions that damage and weaken the party, they must take responsibility.
“It is this party that elevated you, gave you space to campaign, become leaders, and carry its stance. Therefore, every leader must act responsibly and with dignity,” Amirudin said.
He was also commenting on calls for Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung to vacate their seats, following their attendance at an announcement event involving the campaign of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Amirudin also noted that he personally chose to remain with the party despite facing political pressure in the past.
“I was among those targeted during the Sheraton Move (in February 2020), but I made a firm decision to remain with the party, together with many other leaders.
“In such situations, we need to make the right decisions and not treat matters lightly because this party was established through the people’s passionate struggle and a very long journey,” he said.
Harapan has faced various challenges, including the loss of several key leaders, but has remained resilient thanks to the organisation’s strength and grassroots support.
“We have gone through many challenges and lost major leaders, but because of that strength, we were able to survive and even become one of the core parties in the government today,” Amirudin said.
