SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) has introduced a smart card system to monitor diesel consumption by its contractor lorries following fuel costs reaching nearly RM60,000 a day.
Its managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir said the Caltex StarCard enabled the company to monitor the location, time, and amount of diesel purchased for each lorry.
“In the past, we gave cash to drivers, and there may have been instances where the fuel that was supposed to be filled to capacity was not, resulting in losses and leakage.
“With this card, we can analyse whether the lorries are actually being used in the areas under their supervision or for other purposes,” he said.
Ramli was speaking after the strategic cooperation agreement signing ceremony between KDEBWM and Caltex Malaysia at the Selangor International Trade Centre today.
He added that around 500 lorries use up to 10,000 litres of diesel a day, at an average price of RM5.43 per litre.
Each lorry travels around 80km to 100km a day for rubbish collection operations before sending the waste to landfill sites.
Presently, 452 subcontractors have received the cards for use at 92 Caltex stations throughout Selangor.
“Diesel consumption can be monitored daily, weekly, and monthly, while also helping subcontractors manage costs more effectively,” Ramli said.
KDEBWM is also open to collaborating with other fuel companies to facilitate the operations of around 1,300 contractor lorries throughout Selangor.
