SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — Efforts to accelerate the construction of a missing road link in Section U4, Subang Bestari, have entered the initial stage after one of two developers involved agreed to build the stretch within its development.
Kota Damansara assemblyman Izuan Kasim said the development paved the way for work to connect the entire route, which is expected to help ease traffic congestion in the area.
"This is the initial stage, with the developer agreeing to build the road within its development. The road falls within the developer's area, so it must be built by the developer first before we can complete the connection," he told Media Selangor.
Izuan said the route was important as the existing road has only two lanes, while congestion in Subang Bestari has persisted for more than 15 years and worsened with the growing population in Elmina.
"The existing road has only two lanes. Opening this route will help distribute some of the traffic heading towards Kwasa Land or coming from Kota Damansara.
"Traffic congestion in Subang Bestari has persisted for more than 15 years and has now worsened as the population in Elmina grows," he said.
Izuan said the route was one of three missing links in Subang Bestari that were originally planned for construction around 2035.
"After becoming the assemblyman, this was among the issues I frequently raised in meetings with developers so that construction could be brought forward," he said.
Izuan said the next priority was to ensure the alignment of the four-way junction in the area could be coordinated to facilitate smoother traffic flow once the route is completed.
"Discussions are now focused on ensuring that the junction is properly aligned. If it can be aligned, traffic movement will be smoother. Otherwise, traffic flow will be somewhat disrupted," he said.
He said the alignment would require one of the developers involved to surrender part of its land, a matter that was also being discussed with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).
"We are now awaiting a decision on the surrender of part of the land. If agreed, the junction can be built as a properly aligned four-way intersection," he said.
However, Izuan said a timeline for the overall project had yet to be determined as the process was still at an early stage.
