SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — Heavy rainfall of up to 116 millimetres (mm) triggered the flash floods in Kampung Melayu Subang yesterday afternoon, with floodwaters reportedly reaching depths of one metre in residential areas.
Kota Damansara assemblyman Izuan Kasim said the downpour, which lasted about an hour, far exceeded the usual average rainfall of 80mm, causing the river to rise and overflow into nearby residential areas.
"The heavy rain between 2 pm and 3 pm caused the river level to rise dramatically. If we look at today's rainfall, it reached an average of 116mm, which is extremely high.
"The river level also exceeded 18 metres, surpassing the danger level and causing water to overflow into residential areas, affecting nearby residents.
"This is the worst flooding compared with the flash floods that occurred three weeks ago," he told Media Selangor when contacted.

According to records from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage's (DID) Public InfoBanjir portal, rainfall in Kampung Melayu Subang reached 116.5mm, equivalent to the average rainfall over three days.
Meanwhile, Izuan said floodwaters were gradually receding, with most affected residents cleaning up their homes.
He said two temporary relief centres had been opened at Dewan Siantan and Dewan Resak Subang Perdana, each accommodating two families, based on preliminary information.
"Two relief centres have been opened, but flooding in Kampung Melayu Subang is not prolonged. The water usually recedes within one to two hours.
"As a result, most flood victims are reluctant to relocate to the relief centres. However, I have been informed that there are two families at the relief centres, and we are awaiting a report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM)," he said.

Earlier, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the flash floods affected about 92 houses across four areas.
The affected areas were Lorong Merbau, involving 30 houses; Jalan Cengal (seven); Jalan Resak (five); and Jalan Jati (50).
He said five firefighters and a fire engine from the Bukit Jelutong Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 5.33 pm after receiving an emergency call at 5.18 pm.
