SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 – A man posing as a gold buyer fled with 70 pieces of pure gold valued at RM150,000 after meeting with the seller at a homestay in Taman Sri Andalas, Klang.
The 57-year-old suspect, however, was arrested the next day at a hotel in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, Berita Harian reported
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey said the police received a report from a 28-year-old man who worked as a gold bar deliveryman, on the incident that happened at 10pm on Sept 8.
"Investigations found that the suspect had pretended to invite the victim to the homestay to conduct the purchase of the gold.
"When the victim handed over the 70 gold pieces for inspection, the suspect entered a room before fleeing through the rear exit of the house," he said in a statement today.
Lim said police arrested the suspect at 6.30pm on Wednesday and recovered all 70 gold pieces.
He also shared that the suspect had seven prior criminal records, and has been remanded for four days until September 13.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft within a building, which carries a maximum 10-year jail term and a fine upon conviction.
