Dog death: Probe paper to be submitted to deputy prosecutors soon

SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — An investigation paper (IP) on the death of a stray dog, nicknamed Rocky, during a Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) operation will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutors’ (DPP) Office soon, said South Klang district police chief Lim Jit Huey.

In a statement today, he said his team is collecting evidence and testimonies on the incident before the IP is submitted to the DPP Office for further action.

“Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 428 of the Penal Code. We fully assure the investigation will be done fairly, transparently and professionally without partiality,” he added.

In the same development, he confirmed that a group assembled in front of the South Klang district police headquarters at 10.15pm last night.

He said police checks revealed the gathering, themed “Justice for Rocky, was held peacefully to demand follow-up action after a dog was killed during an MBDK operation to round up strays.

He advised the public to obey the law and asked them not to gather at government premises and buildings as such actions could disrupt daily public service operations and traffic in the area.

Lim also urged all quarters to be calm and allow the judicial process to continue.

“The public is also advised not to create or spread speculations that could disrupt the investigation,” he said.

Earlier, MBDK said its recent operation to capture stray dogs in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah was conducted according to standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).

Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said the operation was called following complaints from residents in the area about how stray dogs are threatening public safety, after an incident ended up in a victim being admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
