SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 – A lorry carrying construction waste believed to have been illegally dumped was detained by enforcement officers during an integrated operation at several locations around the Sepang parliamentary area yesterday.
The action was among the outcomes of an inspection during a ‘Terjah dan Tindak’ operation led by Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and Sepang Member of Parliament Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, together with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) and related agencies.
The inspection also found that illegal waste dumping activities were still occurring at several locations, in addition to detecting incidents of open burning.
KDEBWM said the session was also attended by representatives from the Sepang Parliament Public Service Centre, Sepang District and Land Office, Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
According to KDEBWM, the integrated action focused on efforts to stop illegal dumping activities, prevent the emergence of new dumping sites and take action against those involved.
"During an inspection at one of the locations, a lorry carrying construction waste believed to be dumped in the area was also detained by enforcement for inspection and further action," it said in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, KDEBWM said the illegal waste dumping site would be closed and restored in stages with the cooperation of the authorities and relevant agencies.
KDEBWM also added that it would continue to provide operational support within its scope and in accordance with instructions and procedures to ensure waste management and disposal are carried out in an orderly, safe manner and in compliance with applicable regulations.
