GOMBAK, Sept 9 — The state government intends to continue the Selangor Nutrition (NutriSel) free meals initiative next year with several improvements, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that this will be discussed at the 2027 Selangor Budget dialogue session after the government compiles schools’ feedback on the programme.

“God willing, I will bring it up at the budget dialogue that will be held soon. We will look at the response and feedback from the schools and District Education Offices (PPDs) on improvements and additional requirements,” he told reporters after observing how NutriSel is run at SMK Gombak Setia here today.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Development) Datuk Johary Anuar and political secretary to the education minister Rozana Zainal Abidin.

Earlier, Amirudin performed a symbolic handover of NutriSel to SMK Gombak Setia’s administrators before having breakfast with students at the school canteen.

NutriSel, which was introduced under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP), kicked off in 932 schools across Selangor on August 3.

A total of 104,640 students from households earning less than RM2,000 monthly benefit from the programme, which provides free meals on Mondays and Thursdays.

The initiative, which runs until October, is being implemented in collaboration with local authorities, involving a total allocation of RM12.5 million.

The two-phase SREP was introduced in response to the global energy and supply crisis stemming from the West Asia conflict.
