PETALING JAYA, Aug 20 — More than 160,000 students in Selangor are receiving food aid benefits under Selangor Nutrition (NutriSel) or Supplementary Food Plan (RMT), said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that around 106,000 pupils are enrolled in NutriSel while 55,000 are under RMT, with the total representing nearly 15 per cent of the state’s one million students.
“With NutriSel, we can help more needy students in the state,” he said, adding that without the programme, only around 5 per cent of B40 students would be receiving free meals.
He was met after a symbolic handover ceremony for NutriSel at SK Dato’ Harun 1 and SMK Taman Medan here today.

Amirudin said NutriSel, now in its third week, involves 932 schools, with students receiving free meals twice a week.
He added that 90 per cent of the schools involved have submitted their reports on NutriSel, and that monitoring for NutriSel is done with schools and canteen operators to ensure food provided meets established standards.
“We run (NutriSel) with canteen managers. We don’t do it with caterers or (third-party) suppliers. Schools and the (Selangor State) Education Department will assess their performance, while the State Economic Planning Unit receives daily reports from schools,” he said, adding that this allows the state government to monitor the programme in terms of food quality, meals quantity, and delivery methods to students.
Amirudin said this approach allows canteen operators to ensure food is prepared fresh and safely without requiring long-distance deliveries.
The state government has allocated RM14 million to implement NutriSel for three months under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP), introduced to cushion state residents and businesses against the impact of global supply chain and energy market uncertainties due to the West Asia conflict.
