
SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — The state contingent continued to strengthen its lead in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 standings, having amassed 75 gold, 57 silver, and 51 bronze medals for a total of 183 medals.
The hosts now need just five more gold medals to reach their target of 80. Terengganu sits in second place with 37 gold medals, followed by the Federal Territories (35), and Sarawak (34), giving Selangor a 38-gold-medal lead at the top of the chart.

Gymnastics: Cadence Teh bags double gold
State gymnast Cadence Teh Zi Qi secured a double gold during the 2026 SUKMA after successfully defending her women's individual all-around title, while also helping the hosts win team gold today.
She retained her individual all-around title with 48.550 points, scoring 12.050 points in the vault, 11.400 points on the uneven bars, 13.350 points on the balance beam, and 11.750 points in the floor exercise.
Teh admitted she had a poor start after falling on the uneven bars, but bounced back with stronger performances in the next three events to defend her title.

First archery gold
The Selangor archery camp delivered the state's first gold medal for SUKMA 2026 through the mixed team recurve event at Stadium INSPEN this morning.
The pairing of Nur Ieka Hariesya Zainal Habsahli and Muhammad Rizq Arif Kharul Nezam produced an outstanding performance, defeating Penang's M. Khiritigaa and Ammar Muhaimi Md Shuhaidi 6-0 in the final.
Selangor dominated from the outset, recording 38, 36, and 37 points in the first three sets to secure the gold medal for the state contingent.
Rizq described the victory as especially meaningful as it gave him his first gold medal in his second appearance at SUKMA.
Meanwhile, Ieka said the achievement was the most meaningful gift for both her parents, who were present at the stadium to lend their support.

Kiranjenifeer contributes silambam bronze
State martial artist Kiranjenifeer Danchill won bronze in the women's individual silambam thanithiramai stick event at Stadium MBSJ in Serdang Jaya.
She scored 8.467 points to finish third, just 0.233 points behind Perak's athlete, who took silver with 8.700 points.
Penang took gold with 8.703 points in a closely fought contest, with only a narrow margin separating the three medal winners.

Uzlifatil, Ayu deliver diving bronze
Selangor added to its medal tally through the pairing of Uzlifatil Jannah Ashraf and Ayu Syuhaida Khairul, who won bronze in the women's synchronised 3m springboard event.
The duo scored 209.01 points to deliver another medal for the state contingent.
However, the silambam camp was not done stealing the spotlight. Back at Stadium MBSJ, the earlier bronze was followed by a more valuable medal in the men's individual event.

Preteish wins men's individual silambam gold
Kiranjenifeer's colleague Preteish Anbucelvan won gold in the men's individual silambam event after recording the highest score at SUKMA 2026.
He garnered 11.400 points to finish first, adding another gold medal to the host squad's collection.
Sasmita A. Ravi then added to the tally, ensuring the Selangor silambam camp continued its gold-medal celebrations.

Sasmita adds women's silambam gold
Sasmita delivered another gold medal for Selangor after topping the women's individual silambam thanithiramai kuthu varisai event.
She scored 10.9 points to finish first after a consistent performance featuring sharp, precise, and controlled movements.
The victory further strengthened Selangor's silambam performance at this year's Games.

One step away from sweeping football, futsal golds
The success of Selangor's men's and women's futsal squads in winning gold medals has been described as a catalyst for the revival of football in the state, with the aim of returning to dominance on the national sporting stage.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the achievement proves that Selangor's sports development efforts are beginning to bear fruit, with young athletes delivering outstanding performances.
The same fighting spirit was also displayed by the women's ten-pin bowling team as they recovered from a difficult position to produce a dramatic victory.

Dramatic bowling comeback yields gold
Trailing by 191 pins after the first block did not dampen the spirit of the Selangor women's ten-pin bowling squad, who fought back to win gold in the five-player team event yesterday.
Head coach Mustafa Yassin said his charges showed tremendous fighting spirit as they gradually reduced the deficit until the end of the competition.
The most thrilling moment came in the final frame, when Adania Mohd Redzwan needed to bowl two strikes to ensure the gold medal went to Selangor.

Sailing contributes two golds, one silver
The state sailing camp contributed two gold medals through siblings Muhammad Zafir Mohd Zailan and Nur Zafrina Shuhada Mohd Zailan, who each topped the men's ILCA 7 and women's ILCA 6 events respectively.
Similarly, Nur Badrina Husna Hamidon completed Selangor's medal haul by winning silver in the women's individual optimist event.

Selangor swimmers continue gold-medal spree
The swimming camp continued to dominate their rivals from other states, winning five golds and one bronze at Akuatik Selangor today.
Shannon Tan Yang Qing topped the women's 100m butterfly to claim her fifth individual gold, while Chong Yuan Yi and Goh Li Hen won the women's 400m freestyle and men's 100m butterfly respectively. Aslan Adnan took bronze in the men's 400m freestyle.
The excellence continued in the relay events, with the state women's quartet winning the 4x200m freestyle in a new SUKMA record time of 8:36.12, while the men's quartet also secured gold in the same event after edging Penang by just 0.37 seconds.

Cycling camp wins two silvers
Selangor's cyclists won two silver medals through Yong Ann Tung in the women's individual keirin and the men's team sprint squad, who lost to Johor in the final.
She also recorded a personal achievement by improving on her previous best record in the event.
Overall, the seventh day saw medals continue to arrive from one venue to another, with Selangor maintaining its momentum as SUKMA 2026 moves ever closer to its decisive final stages when the Games conclude on Monday (August 24).
