BANTING, Aug 22 — Sailing presented two gold medals and one silver to the Selangor contingent during the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at Pusat Latihan Perahu Layar, Batu Laut, today.
The two gold medals came from the men’s ILCA 7 and women’s ILCA 6 events, while the silver was won in the Women’s Individual Optimist event.
Adding to the significance, the two gold medals were contributed by siblings Muhammad Zafir Mohd Zailan and Nur Zafrina Shuhada Mohd Zailan, who each dominated the men’s ILCA 7 and women’s ILCA 6 events respectively.
The achievement marked a special moment for the siblings and the Selangor contingent at SUKMA 2026. Adding to the family milestone, their youngest sibling Muhammad Zafrin Mohd Zailan also competed but did not win a medal.
Meanwhile, Nur Badrina Husna Hamidon added another medal to Selangor’s sailing haul after winning silver in the Women’s Individual Optimist event. She finished behind Perak, who won the gold medal.
Overall, Selangor competed in nine sailing events and finished with a haul of three medals.
The tally placed Selangor third overall in sailing, behind Terengganu with eight medals and Sarawak with five.
The achievement also contributed to the state contingent’s efforts to continue adding to its medal haul at SUKMA 2026.
