SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — It was a good showing for the Selangor SUKMA contingent today as well, with the current medal tally at 62 — 23 gold, 24 silver and 15 bronze.

The Selangor women’s kabbadi team made up for their 2024 loss in Sarawak by taking home the SUKMA gold at MBSJ Stadium this afternoon.

They beat the Federal Territories 34-33 in a tense final that saw both teams fight tooth and nail to the end.

Squad member Thurgasri Arumugam stole the show by scoring point after point and pushing Selangor ahead of the game, but the opponents fought back in the second half and evened the tally.

Selangor captain Sankari Pushpanathan said she is happy with the victory, even with the narrow win.

“We are proud because we’ve been training for a long time, actually. At least 11 months we’ve trained for this gold, so we are very happy.

In the same arena, just one point kept Selangor’s men’s kabbadi squad away from SUKMA gold.

In the men’s final at MBSJ Stadium in Serdang Jaya this afternoon, Selangor gave Kedah a tight contest but a few small errors towards the end of the match put gold out of the home team’s grasp, and they had to settle for silver.

Meanwhile, SUKMA Selangor contingent head Abbas Adzmi Salimmi said he is happy with the kabbadi camp’s achievements this edition.

“Overall, I am still happy with Selangor’s kabbadi squads that made it to the finals, and we got one gold medal and one silver,” he told Media Selangor.

The state squad stayed dominant with 211 runs compared with Johor’s 109 runs, ending their competition’s reign as T50 cricket champion.

Johor had to settle for silver, while Kelantan took bronze.
