SUBANG JAYA, Aug 18 — Just one point kept Selangor’s men’s kabbadi squad away from SUKMA gold, but the women’s team’s win rounded out the state camp’s achievement.
In the men’s final at MBSJ Stadium in Serdang Jaya this afternoon, Selangor gave Kedah a tight contest but a few small errors towards the end of the match put gold out of the home team’s grasp.
Selangor coach Thiagu Sankaran said his charges did their best throughout the game, but the pressure cost them important points.
“It’s a pity because with one point, we lost the gold medal, but for the women’s team we say well done because they did as they were told.
“The men’s team also listened to us but match conditions gave them some pressure,” he said after the match.

Thiagu said the women’s squad’s victory was the fruit of their hard work, after both teams brought home silver in SUKMA Sarawak 2024.
“In the 2024 edition both teams got silver, lost by one point, too. But this time one team won gold.
“For the future, we will start training earlier and find new players to replace some players who are past the age limit,” he added.
Thiagu said the camp will learn from the men’s squad’s second-place finish, and the entire team will aim to win two gold medals at the next SUKMA.
Meanwhile, SUKMA Selangor contingent head Abbas Adzmi Salimmi said he is happy with the kabbadi camp’s achievements this edition.
“Overall, I am still happy with Selangor’s kabbadi squads that made it to the finals, and we got one gold medal and one silver,” he told Media Selangor.
