AMPANG, Aug 17 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) is offering residents money for their recycling under its Trash to Cash programme, for them to settle their assessment rates.

The initiative aims to foster a culture of recycling and responsibility to pay assessment rates among residents, adding value to the council’s environmental conservation and sustainable waste management efforts.

The programme, held at Dewan KRT Taman Permata B in Hulu Kelang here yesterday, received encouraging response from residents, with 709.85kg of recyclables collected and bought.

The figure includes 130kg of paper, 72.8kg of boxes, 67.1kg of plastic, 73.25kg of metal, 48.05kg of e-waste, and 318.65kg of used cooking oil.

MPAJ said residents’ profits from selling their recyclables went to their assessment rate payments.

“Proceeds from the sale of those recyclables were used to settle assessment rate payments, with each assessment rate account owner valued at RM6.60.

“Through this initiative, MPAJ has introduced and implemented the assessment rate payment initiative using proceeds from recyclables,” it said in a Facebook statement today.

MPAJ also thanked residents who participated in the initiative and made it a success, towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment.
