20 years of flash flood problem in Tasik Permai resolved

SHAH ALAM, July 27 — A drainage upgrading project spanning nearly one kilometre in Tasik Permai, Ampang has resolved the flash floods that had plagued residents for almost two decades.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Zone 19 councillor Mohammad Firdaus Babh said the project, completed about three months ago, involved upgrading and reconfiguring the drainage system from Bukit Ampang to Jalan Permai 1.

"A site visit with Teratai state assemblyman Yew Jia Haur about three months ago led to MPAJ implementing this major project. Thanks to God, since the project was completed, Tasik Permai has been free from flash floods," he told Media Selangor.

Firdaus said the problem stemmed from a drainage system that was more than 30 years old and no longer able to cope with water flow, compounded by the area's hilly terrain.

"I have been serving this area for almost 15 years, and I estimate the problem had persisted for nearly 20 years.

"The roads most frequently affected by flash floods were Jalan Permai J, Jalan Permai K, Lorong Permai 18 to 21, and Jalan Permai 1," he said.

He said the recurring floods had also disrupted operations at the Zone 19 Community Service Centre, forcing the office to relocate.

"I had to move the office from Dewan Permai B to Dewan Permai D because the area was frequently inundated.

"We are grateful to the Teratai state assemblyman for responding to residents' concerns and to MPAJ for successfully implementing this project," he said.
