SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) staff yesterday collected over 14.8 tonnes of recyclables through its Waste-to-Food programme.
“... 686 units of pantry staples were redeemed by staff through collections on the day of the programme,” MPAJ said in a Facebook statement yesterday.
The initiative allows MPAJ employees to redeem items from a list of pantry staples under a points system.
According to the council, 1kg of recyclables submitted earns an employee a stamp, and they may redeem goods once they collect 15 stamps.
The programme, organised by MPAJ’s Recycling Division and Urban and Health Service Department, aims to foster a culture of waste sorting and recycling among council staff.
The council said this initiative boosts awareness of the value of recyclable waste.
“This effort is also to support the Ampang Jaya Towards A Low-Carbon City 2017-2030 plan, especially in terms of solid waste management.
“A culture of recycling among staff and the community must be enhanced to (foster) a cleaner, more sustainable, and lower-carbon environment,” MPAJ said.
