SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — More than 10,000 jobs in various sectors will be up for grabs at the Selangor Mega Career Carnival, to be held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre on Saturday and Sunday.
State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the programme, organised by the state government with MyFutureJobs, gathers over 100 employers and is expected to draw between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors over the two days.
“This programme under the Selangor Career Programme is an initiative announced in Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP) by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“It aims to help the people face current economic challenges and bolster labour market resilience in the state,” he told a press conference at the State Secretariat Building here today.
He added that besides jobs, the carnival will also emphasise future skills development under the Generative AI Jobs Masterclass to help jobseekers improve their competitiveness.
“The current labour market is becoming more dynamic, that’s why individuals must master new skills including AI so they can compete and fulfil current industry needs,” he said.
Papparaidu added that visitors may also join various activities like job-matching sessions, open interviews, same-day hiring, MYFutureJobs On-The-Go, resumé-checking clinics, career counselling, and the Interactive Career Exploration Board (MyCEC Light).
He said the event will also feature the Platform Selangor (PLATS) Career Transition Programme that covers briefings, advisory sessions, and career checks for those interested in transitioning to entrepreneurship.
“This is a platform to help youth who want to transition from their jobs to the business field to obtain comprehensive information before entering a new field,” he added.
Manufacturing sector still dominant
To encourage participation, Papparaidu said the state government has launched the Selangor Career Tour Passport worth RM10 for participants who join certain activities throughout the carnival.
A RM50 career loss aid will also be provided for eligible participants.
“This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment in easing the people’s burden and encouraging active participation in efforts to improve employee marketability,” he explained.
He also said the manufacturing sector is offering the highest number of jobs, followed by the tourism sector, which has great potential to drive income growth and open more doors for youth.
“Selangor is still leading the national manufacturing and industrial sector. The tourism sector also has good prospects as this state has airports, ports, and various facilities that provide even more jobs for youth,” Papparaidu added.
