KUALA SELANGOR, July 11 — Competitive salaries, employment benefits and career growth prospects are among the key considerations for young people when choosing jobs, alongside the working environment and location.
Fikri Anwar Hairi, 26, said opportunities to develop skills and build a long-term career are his main priorities over other factors.
With a background in graphic design, he is currently seeking opportunities in marketing or sales, with a target salary of at least RM2,500.
“The main factor for me is the benefits offered. I want a career that provides experience and adds value to my personal growth and future career development,” he said when met at the JobCare Selangor Career Carnival held at the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) here today.

For Universiti Malaysia Kelantan graduate Muhammad Faris Hamzah, 23, the location and workplace environment are top priorities as he searches for a job after completing his industrial training last month.
The Retail Entrepreneurship degree graduate is currently seeking opportunities in marketing, human resources or administration, with a target starting salary of at least RM2,500.
“The main factors for me are the workplace location and environment. I hope the workplace is not too far away as my hometown is in Sekinchan.

“For a start, I am targeting a minimum salary of RM2,500, but I am also willing to work outside the district.”
Meanwhile, Hail Danish Fabil, 24, said salary was the main factor in choosing a job, with a target income of above RM2,500.
Having been looking for a job for about two months after leaving his previous employment, he hoped the career carnival would open up more opportunities for better offers, particularly in the sales field.

Kuala Selangor is the fourth location for this year’s JobCare Selangor Career Carnival, which aims to offer up to 40,000 job opportunities across various sectors.
When tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government would allocate RM1 million to implement the initiative as part of efforts to address unemployment.
