HULU SELANGOR, Aug 15 — Women accounted for about 80 per cent of those hired through career fairs held during the three editions of the Wanita Berdaya Tahan Selangor 2026 roadshow so far.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the achievement was in line with the state government’s efforts to provide women with opportunities to rebuild their careers, thereby strengthening the state’s economy.
She said initiatives provided included the Career Comeback programme in collaboration with TalentCorp, as well as resume reviews with the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO).
“There are many women who have worked before, stopped working and we want to give them a second chance.
“Through SOCSO, we also conduct resume reviews. This is very helpful in ensuring they improve their prospects of securing employment.
“We are still compiling the figures, but I estimate that about 80 per cent of those hired are women,” she said when met after the launch of the Hulu Selangor Zone edition of the roadshow here today.
According to Anfaal, the programme is also open to men, with many attending on a walk-in basis for job interviews.
At the same programme, she also launched the MamaKerja 2.0 incentive, which offers RM1,000 in assistance to working mothers in Selangor.
On employer participation, she said the response had been encouraging, with companies from outside the district also attending to offer job opportunities.
“I see that the response from employers has also been very positive. We were informed that even Top Glove from Klang came here to offer job opportunities.”
Besides the career fair, the programme also provided health screenings, including for senior citizens, in collaboration with BeVital.
Today’s tour also saw the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The first edition of the Wanita Berdaya Tahan Selangor 2026 roadshow was held in the Petaling Zone last June, followed by the Hulu Langat Zone. The programme will continue until November, covering the Gombak and Kuala Selangor zones.
