SHAH ALAM, July 26 — The state will provide free breakfasts to 106,000 students across 962 schools from August 3 to December 3 under the Selangor Nutrition Programme, which is part of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP).

The Selangor Secretary’s Office said in a Facebook post today that the RM14.4 million initiative will benefit students who come from households that earn under RM2,000.

“The biweekly meals provision, done through school canteens, is to ensure students get a balanced diet before they (start their day at school),” it added.

SREP, whose first phase was tabled to the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on April 16 and second phase on June 19 by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, was launched to resolve supply chain and energy challenges arising from the West Asia conflict.

Under the package, the state government introduced several interventions to help the people and businesses face rising costs due to global supply chain disruptions and energy market fluctuations.
