SHAH ALAM, July 16 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of the state's athletes by providing RM348,500 in financial assistance to 16 recipients, comprising athletes and sports associations.

They include the Selangor Archery Association, the Selangor Red Giants e-sports team, and the Selangor Rugby Union, each of which received RM100,000, while Selangor fencer Saif Nordin received RM20,000.

The Selangor Archery Association's president Mohamad Norwafi Sahroni said the RM100,000 contribution will help strengthen its management while supporting efforts to produce more Olympic-calibre archers.

He added that the contribution marked the third time Yayasan MBI had provided financial assistance to the association.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Yayasan MBI for its contribution to the Selangor Archery Association. In fact, this is not the first time Yayasan MBI has supported our association.

"This is already the third contribution from the foundation. It will also help us manage the association more effectively and, Alhamdulillah (God be praised), we have succeeded in producing an Olympian who represents Malaysia," Norwafi said.

He was speaking to the media after the contribution presentation ceremony with Yayasan MBI head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor at Bangunan Darul Ehsan today.

Meanwhile, national skateboarding coach Mariss Khan, who received RM3,000 to support participation in an overseas training programme, said the assistance will help cover part of the costs of sending the team to international competitions.

The team has previously taken part in programmes in China and Thailand and is currently raising funds to ensure its young athletes continue to gain international exposure.

"Our programme was held earlier in March in China and Thailand. We welcome anyone who is able to contribute funding because our athletes are still very young, around 16 and 17 years old," he said.

Mariss noted that their long-term goal is to qualify their athletes for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

Similarly, motorsport athlete Danish Rifqi Yusnizam said the RM3,000 contribution he received will help ease the financial burden of preparing his racing equipment.

The assistance has also given him a morale boost ahead of his participation in the 2026 Malaysia Superbike Championship, scheduled for next week.

"I am happy because it helps reduce some of the financial burden and gives me additional funds for my motorcycle equipment," Danish said.
