SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or Yayasan MBI, has provided RM200,000 in sponsorship to support preparations by two Selangor adopted sports teams ahead of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
Yayasan MBI chief executive officer Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said RM100,000 each was allocated to the Selangor Archery Association (SELAR) and the Selangor Rugby Union (KRS).
He said the two sports were selected as Selangor’s adopted sports for the country’s biggest sporting event, which will take place soon.
“For SUKMA, we have two adopted sports, namely archery and rugby. Each received RM100,000, and we also provided RM20,000 to MBI, our parent company, as they are organising the opening ceremony at Dataran Kemerdekaan.
“There are also new applications that I have yet to review… including requests for attire and other items, which I will look into later.
“We sincerely hope that our two adopted sports, archery and rugby, will deliver gold medals and achieve better results compared with the SUKMA held in Kuching two years ago,” he told Media Selangor.
The 22nd edition of SUKMA will feature 469 events across 37 sports, to be held at 52 venues in all nine districts in Selangor. It will be held from August 15 to 24.
The Para SUKMA Games, to be held from September 5 to 14, will feature 369 events across 10 sports, namely swimming, athletics, badminton, table tennis, ten-pin bowling, lawn bowls, archery, chess, boccia and powerlifting.
The country’s largest sporting event will see participation from all state contingents, while Brunei Darussalam has confirmed its participation as an invited contingent, bringing the total number of contingents to 15.
The SUKMA 2026 opening ceremony will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.
