SUNGAI BULOH, July 14 — The first stretch of Kita Selangor Rail is set for development next year under a federal-state partnership, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the Selangor government is in final talks with Putrajaya on the project, which seeks to improve connectivity to the state’s southern region following high demand from public transport users in the area.
“I believe that by next year there will be the start of a (rail) line thanks to cooperation with the federal government. We will start from the south because there is high demand there.
“I believe Kita Selangor Rail will become a blueprint that can be beneficial in the future (as) a long-term project, as the construction costs for this (line) is high and would ultimately be borne by the government, which is why I have to discuss next steps with the federal government so this rail (line) can connect Selangor’s south to north,” he added.
Amirudin was speaking to reporters after a groundbreaking ceremony for Kuen Cheng High School 2 in Bandar Coalfields here yesterday.
He explained that the foundational Kita Selangor Rail alignment has been identified, while improvements will be made periodically throughout the project period.
“So far, a large part of the alignment involves government land and I feel it won’t be a problem for us to develop Kita Selangor Rail in the future,” Amirudin added.
