SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Tourism Selangor plans to capitalise on the LRT3 by promoting heritage, cultural and lifestyle attractions along the new rail corridor, as improved accessibility is expected to encourage more visitors to explore destinations across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
According to the state agency, the new line presents an opportunity to boost tourism by making it easier for both domestic and international visitors to travel to key attractions using public transport.
“The opening of LRT3 presents a significant opportunity to strengthen tourism across Selangor by improving accessibility to key attractions in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
“Tourism Selangor welcomes the enhanced connectivity, which allows visitors to explore a wider range of cultural, heritage, culinary and lifestyle destinations using public transport,” it said in a recent reply to Media Selangor.
Tourism Selangor said it already promotes various heritage and travel itineraries in the state, especially in Klang and Shah Alam, and expects the new rail line to enhance these efforts.
“With LRT3 now providing direct access to these destinations, visitors can more conveniently discover attractions such as Little India Klang, Gedung Raja Abdullah, Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz, and major retail destinations including 1 Utama and AEON Shah Alam,” it said.
It also lauded the LRT3 free ride initiative, emphasising it offers an opportunity for more people to experience the state’s attractions via public transport.
“By making key attractions in Bandar Utama, Shah Alam and Klang more accessible, the new line encourages greater exploration of the state’s cultural, heritage, culinary and lifestyle offerings while supporting local tourism businesses and communities,” it said.

It added that improved rail connectivity is expected to benefit businesses and tourism operators near LRT3 stations.
To support the expected increase in visitor numbers, Tourism Selangor said improving first- and last-mile connectivity remains a key priority following the launch of LRT3.
It also said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, as LRT3’s operator, has rolled out an extensive support network comprising 40 feeder buses with 13 routes that serve 323 bus stops, complemented by Rapid On-Demand services across 20 zones to connect passengers with nearby attractions, commercial centres and residential areas beyond walking distance.
On top of that, to improve the system, Tourism Selangor said the state government and Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) have taken immediate measures to improve pedestrian access around several stations, including Stadium Shah Alam, Dato’ Menteri and Kerjaya, following public feedback.
Among the upgrades underway is a covered pedestrian walkway linking Dato’ Menteri station to the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC), PKNS Complex, and surrounding commercial areas to provide safer and more convenient access for commuters and visitors.
Tourism Selangor said MBSA remains committed to ensuring safe, sheltered and pedestrian-friendly links between LRT3 stations and nearby attractions, adding: “These improvements are intended to encourage greater public transport use while making it easier for visitors to access attractions, shopping areas and cultural landmarks on foot.”
