SHAH ALAM, July 31 — Jambatan Kota is set to be developed into a new visitor attraction that is expected to further boost Klang's tourism sector following the opening of the Shah Alam LRT3 line.
Klang Mayor Dato' Abdul Hamid Hussain said the development of the historic area is expected to attract more visitors thanks to improved public transport connectivity.
One of the first programmes held at Jambatan Kota is the 2026 Festival Merakyatkan Seni Warisan Akar Umbi Laman Santai, which was launched last week.
"This festival serves as a gathering place for people of all races. It allows us to learn about each other's cultures while fostering the spirit of unity.
"Jambatan Kota is also an ideal location. With the LRT3 station now operational, this historic area has tremendous potential to become a community tourism product that attracts more visitors.
"A wide range of activities has been organised, including handicraft sales, food stalls, and many others, benefiting local entrepreneurs, artists, small traders, and the local economy," he told Media Selangor.
Hamid added that the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) is also open to collaborating with external parties to further strengthen and promote the city's tourism development.
Such efforts are in line with the aspiration of making Klang a city that is not only physically developed but also rich in culture, history, and community identity.
"We are working with external partners to organise VolunHeritage @ Jambatan Kota Klang, which takes place every week.
"The programme brings together heritage, arts, tourism, environmental awareness, and community participation within a single platform," he said.
Earlier this month, Hamid said the opening of the Shah Alam LRT3 line is expected to become a new catalyst for tourism in the royal city of Klang.
The Shah Alam LRT3 line, which began operations on June 29, connects Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya with Johan Setia in Klang, significantly enhancing the public transport network in western Selangor.
