SHAH ALAM, July 1 — Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and developers have been instructed to urgently complete outstanding pedestrian infrastructure works at the newly opened LRT3 stations, as the state government moves to address public safety and accessibility concerns.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said Prasarana has been given two months to complete the remaining works at the Dato’ Menteri Station, which recently went viral for missing pedestrian links.

“Today, we are conducting an inspection to identify issues at the site. Among the issues we found was that Prasarana has not yet completed certain works that they were supposed to finish, including some additional sections along the alignment.

“We have instructed Prasarana to complete the works within two months, particularly at the Dato’ Menteri station, which links to the Stadium Shah Alam station,” he said during a media conference after an inspection at the Stadium Shah Alam station today.

Ng’s remarks come following viral videos showing incomplete pedestrian walkways at the two stations, posing safety concerns for commuters.

He added that several pedestrian facilities had not been fully completed before the LRT3 line began operations yesterday due to on-site constraints.

“We acknowledge there are weaknesses. Once operations began and people started using the facilities, issues surfaced. We are taking drastic action to resolve them,” Ng said.

The state government will involve relevant parties, including the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and developers such as Selangor State Development Corporation, to coordinate and expedite improvements and infrastructure works at other locations.

MBSA has also been instructed to inspect all LRT3 stations within its jurisdiction and identify any similar shortcomings, while urging local authorities in other areas, including Klang, to carry out the same exercise.

“There is no short-term solution. The only solution is to speed up the works,” he said when asked if there are any short-term solutions while waiting for the completion of the pedestrian walkways.

Ng noted that no additional state allocation has been set aside for the repairs at this stage.

Meanwhile, Kota Anggerik state assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi said that while zebra crossings have been provided at LRT3 stations, parts of the pedestrian network remain incomplete and are not fully accessible, particularly for disabled persons.

Najwan, who is also the state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship, urged MBSA to review traffic light timings to provide pedestrians with a more practical and safer crossing period.

He highlighted that some commuters had resorted to jaywalking rather than using designated crossings, while urging MBSA to immediately inspect, upgrade, and repair pedestrian infrastructure around LRT3 stations within its administrative area to improve public safety and accessibility.
