PETALING JAYA, July 29 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is in the final stages of completing the Petaling Jaya Transportation Study 2.0, which will serve as a blueprint for improving the city's transportation network, said Mayor Dato' Mohamad Zahri Samingon.
It is also expected to guide future transport planning to better meet the needs of city residents.
The study, which is being conducted by appointed consultants, is nearing completion before its findings are presented to the council for deliberation.
"Once the consultants have completed their work, they will present the findings to the council, and when the time is right, we will share the outcome with Petaling Jaya residents," he told Media Selangor after the Petaling Jaya City Council's full board meeting today.
Zahri added that the local authority remains committed to enhancing the city's transportation system through careful planning and evidence-based studies.
The Transportation Study 2.0 is expected to provide MBPJ with updated data and recommendations to support long-term transport planning.
He was commenting on MBPJ’s plans to improve Petaling Jaya’s transportation network, including enhancing public accessibility.
Previously, on June 26, state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han ordered all local authorities in Selangor to build safe, comfortable pedestrian links to public transport stations.
He said the directive applies to local authorities statewide, not just those with LRT3 stations in their administrative areas, to overcome linkage gaps in the public transport system.
“The focus for local councils this year and the coming years is to build safer and more comfortable pedestrian facilities for commuters,” Ng said.
His comment followed public criticism over gaps in pedestrian connectivity and the lack of proper walking links to and from several LRT3 stations following the line’s launch.
