SHAH ALAM, June 30 — The Klang Valley LRT and MRT networks have seen a sharp drop in service disruptions over the past three years, from 64 incidents in 2024 to 28 cases in 2025 and 12 instances as of May 31 this year, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
In a written parliamentary reply yesterday, he said the data covers the LRT Kelana Jaya Line, LRT Ampang Line, MRT Kajang Line and MRT Putrajaya Line, which are operated by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd.
For LRT, Loke said disruptions on the Kelana Jaya Line declined from 26 in 2024 to 16 in 2025 and three as of May this year, while the LRT Ampang Line saw a drop from 14 in 2024 to four in 2025 and three as of May.
The MRT Kajang Line recorded a decrease from 20 disruptions in 2024 to six in 2025 and two as of May this year, while the MRT Putrajaya Line saw four disruptions in 2024, two in 2025 and four as of May.
“Based on the statistics, the overall number of service disruptions is on a downtrend compared with previous years,” he said.
Loke was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) on the number of service disruptions along the four lines from 2024 to 2026, as well as the current Mean Kilometre Between Failures (MKBF).
According to the minister, the MKBF — calculated based on the distance travelled by trains before a failure occurs that causes delays exceeding five minutes, using a 12-month moving average — for the four lines has improved over the years.
It rose from 160,000km in 2023 to 330,000km in 2024, 790,000km in 2025, and 930,000km as of May 31 this year.
The ministry has set a target MKBF of 980,000km for all Rapid Rail services, excluding KL Monorail, by the end of this year.
On the breakdown, Loke said the LRT Kelana Jaya Line recorded an MKBF of 640,000km against a target of 810,000km by year end, while the LRT Ampang Line achieved 960,000km, slightly below its 1,000,000km target.
For MRT services, the Kajang Line exceeded its target with 1,300,000km against a 2026 target of 740,000km, while the Putrajaya Line recorded 1,180,000km, surpassing its 1,000,000km target.
“The latest MKBF achievement shows that the MRT Kajang Line and MRT Putrajaya Line have achieved and exceeded the MKBF targets for 2026, recording more than 1,000,000km.
"Meanwhile, the LRT Ampang Line and LRT Kelana Jaya Line have yet to meet their respective targets. The MKBF performance was affected by, among others, issues related to the switch system, train, and rail system.”
Loke said Rapid Rail will continue its maintenance, asset replacement and system enhancement initiatives to improve service reliability and achieve MKBF targets.
