SHAH ALAM, June 30 — The LRT3 Shah Alam Line has kicked off to encouraging response from Klang residents, who say the new public transport facility can change their daily mobility landscape.
Two local representatives say residents have started asking them about access to facilities and destinations along the route, including malls, hospitals, and eateries.
The rail line is expected to help reduce dependence on private vehicles and cut travel times by half, compared with the 1.5-hour drive to the capital during peak hours.
Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei said free rides on the LRT3 until July 31, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday, is the best way to get more people to try the new service.
“This support system (feeder buses and the Demand-Responsive Transit service) is essential to complete first-and-last-mile connectivity, and linking rail stations directly to housing areas.
“I hope this expanding network can reduce bad traffic congestion around Klang. We are even welcoming residents from other districts to come to Klang to enjoy a day trip,” he told Media Selangor today.
Encouraging ‘greener’ travel
Pandamaran assemblyman Leong Tuck Chee is urging people, especially those in areas without direct access to the LRT3 line, to make use of DRT van booking apps.
He said commuters are using apps to book Rapid On-Demand vans, which he says is proof that the service can help people get to LRT3 stations.
“As we face current energy and transport cost pressures, transitioning to public transport modes is a smart step to support a green lifestyle and save energy.
“I myself plan to take the LRT3 during the free fare period to experience this new line,” he added.
The 37.8km Shah Alam LRT3 Line links Johan Setia in Klang to Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya with 20 stations.
Throughout the free LRT3 fare period until July 31, commuters may also take Prasarana Malaysia Bhd feeder buses along the line.
For those driving to LRT3 stations, a total of 2,300 parking bays are available at six stations along the line.
