SHAH ALAM, June 19 — The state government is targeting a female labour participation rate (FLPR) of 75 per cent by 2030, with its MamaKerja initiative strengthened to help more mothers stay employed.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said women are an important asset to Selangor’s development and need a strong support system to remain active in the labour market.
“Women are an important investment for the state. We want them to remain in the workforce with peace and safety, but for that, they need a strong support system including childcare facilities.
“This additional RM5 million (under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package, or SREP) will allow MamaKerja recipient numbers to be increased to 10,000 working mothers, helping more women maintain their participation in the labour market,” she added when met after the SREP tabling at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Anfaal said the RM1,000 incentive offered under the programme would help working mothers with childcare costs, especially amid rising living costs.
She added that the aid won’t just ease financial pressure on families, but also allow mothers to focus on their careers without being too burdened by childcare issues.
“Selangor’s (FLPR) now is around 70.3 per cent and the state government is targeting an increase to 75 per cent by 2030,” Anfaal said.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an additional RM5 million for the MamaKerja programme under SREP Phase 2.
The top-up funds brings the total allocations for MamaKerja to RM10 million, which would allow RM1,000 to be channelled to 10,000 working mothers with children aged six and below.
