SHAH ALAM, June 19 — Selangor has doubled the allocation for its MamaKerja initiative to RM10 million to help ease childcare costs for working mothers with children aged six and below.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the additional RM5 million, announced under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package Phase Two today, would enable 10,000 women to receive RM1,000 in financial aid each.
This serves as a token of appreciation for women who contribute to their families and the state.
“Among the initiatives announced by the state government in the 2026 Selangor Budget was MamaKerja, an assistance for mothers who not only raise families but also play an important role as working women.
“With the current situation and the possibility of a crisis affecting the economy, the state will increase the allocation by RM5 million, bringing the total to RM10 million.
“This enables assistance of RM1,000 for each woman with children aged six and below who require childcare services at nurseries or care centres,” he said when tabling the package during the State Legislative Assembly special sitting today.
Previously, when tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget in November last year, Amirudin said that the MamaKerja initiative would receive a RM5 million allocation to benefit 5,000 women.
The initiative recognises the role of women not only as caregivers but also as contributors to the state’s economy, providing support for childcare costs to enable mothers to continue participating in the workforce.
The Menteri Besar said the aid would be channelled through the state’s NINE app.
