SHAH ALAM, June 9 — Landowners who allow illegal settlements and unauthorised construction on their property are a primary factor for ongoing squatting issues in Sungai Tekali.
In a Facebook post today, Dusun Tua assemblyman Johan Abd Aziz addressed a viral video of an illegal settlement, saying it is a persistent issue he previously raised during an Hulu Langat District Action Council meeting last year.
He asserted that various enforcement agencies have carried out monitoring and operations, but efforts are heavily hindered by landowners who allow their land to be used for squatting
“The main cause is the action of the landowners who allow the land to be used for settlements and the construction of structures without approval, including by providing utility facilities such as water and electricity supplies.
“This situation not only violates the established regulations, but also complicates the efforts of government agencies to effectively handle the issue,” he added.
Johan also said details on ongoing enforcement operations should not be publicly disclosed.
Meanwhile, he said he would raise the issue again at an upcoming action council meeting, and suggested legal action and enforcement expand beyond settlers to target landowners.
“All quarters involved must be held accountable in accordance with the legal provisions so actions taken truly address the root cause of the problem,” Johan added.
