HULU LANGAT, July 5 — The demolition of the illegal multi-storey building settlement in Kampung Baru Sungai Makau, Hulu Langat, has been fully completed.
Hulu Langat District Officer Dato' Mohd Jusni Hashim said the landowner is currently clearing the site and removing construction debris.
"The settlement had long been vacated by the Rohingya community. However, the buildings remained standing before the demolition work was carried out together with the landowner," he said after officiating the Hulu Langat Zone Selangor Resilient Women Tour 2026 yesterday.
Jusni added that periodic monitoring will be conducted to ensure no further unauthorised structures are built in the area.
"With the complete demolition, we hope they are no longer in this area, but we suspect they will move to other areas (instead).
"From time to time, we will look into areas expected to become new settlements. Whatever the case, this matter is suited for discussion at a higher level, like the federal level, because they are United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees cardholders," he said.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari clarified that the issue of illegal structures was not new and had undergone various regulatory processes since 2016.
Many actions have been taken by government agencies over the years, including the issuance of warning notices and compounds, the conduct of integrated operations, and enforcement in accordance with legal provisions.
He said the demolition operations involved multiple agencies, including the Hulu Langat District and Land Office, the Kajang Municipal Council, the Selangor Water Management Authority, the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Immigration Department.
