SHAH ALAM, June 2 — Dusun Tua is gaining attention as a eco-tourism destination in Selangor for its natural beauty including rivers, waterfalls and recreational areas.

Dusun Tua state assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz said locations such as Sungai Congkak, Sungai Gabai and Gunung Nuang continue to receive a high volume of visitors, especially during weekends and school holidays.

He said the growth of Selangor’s tourism sector had also boosted local economies, benefiting small businesses, campsites and accommodation operators.

“Dusun Tua is rich with natural resources like rivers, waterfalls and hilly terrains. Now, campsites and resort areas are also growing, making it a major attraction and focal point for visitors,” he said during Media Selangor’s SKOP programme recently.

Despite this, Johan said the development of the tourism sector must be planned sustainably to avoid affecting environmental balance.

He reminded that any land exploring or development activities in hilly areas must seek views and advice from local authorities to prevent risks of environmental damage and mudfloods.

“There have been cases of land clearing on hillside areas, causing muddy runoff and red-coloured water to flow onto roads and into nearby villages.”

“Even if the land is privately owned, earthworks and development must seek the advice of local authorities because their impact could affect residents living downstream.”

He also stressed the need to upgrade infrastructure, particularly road networks, following an increase in population and tourist numbers.

Johan said traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, has become one of the main complaints among residents due to narrow roads and the increasing number of heavy vehicles.

“The main road in Dusun Tua must be widened because there are many schools located by the roadside and the risk of accidents is high.

“I hope the road widening project from Batu 9 to Batu 14, Hulu Langat, can be expedited to ease residents and visitors movement,” he said.
