SHAH ALAM, June 14 — The time has come for the government to seek a more comprehensive solution and formulate a clearer action plan to address the Rohingya refugee issue, which is increasingly causing concern among local communities.
Dusun Tua state assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz said the presence of the ethnic group, who are able to work, operate businesses, and establish settlements, has led to perceptions that they are effectively “beyond the reach of the law”.
“It is understood that they are not allowed to run businesses, yet they are able to work in scrap metal yards and landfill sites. There must be proper guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all of this; only then will villagers feel reassured.
“We sympathise with them because they are human beings too. However, what are the appropriate SOPs for Rohingya migrants?” he said when contacted by Media Selangor.
Johan added that the demolition of a Rohingya settlement in Kampung Sungai Makau, Hulu Langat, had yet to fully ease residents’ concerns, as there are several other areas dominated by the same community.

“There is relief in this particular case, yes. But this is not limited to just one or two locations. As I have mentioned, there are similar situations in other State constituencies, including within Hulu Langat,” he said.
Previously, Johan said that demolition works on structures within the Rohingya settlement at Sungai Tekali, Hulu Langat, had commenced yesterday by the landowner.
The process began yesterday morning and has yet to be completed, with demolition works first being carried out in Kampung Sungai Makau.
On Friday (June 12), Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government will not compromise on any form of land encroachment and unauthorised development, including illegal settlements in Kampung Sungai Makau.
He emphasised that the enforcement action taken by the state government was not based on the occupants’ background or nationality, but rather focused on compliance with the law and land administration regulations.
