SUBANG JAYA, May 25 — Upgrades to the Kewajipan Roundabout will start in July, aimed at resolving long-standing traffic congestion problems, said Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze.
She added that the RM100 million project will take at least six months to complete.
“We expect that in the middle of the year, this project can start, including upgrades to the roundabout, and it needs at least six months to finish,” she said when met after surveying the roundabout here today.
Also present were representatives from the police, New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Sunway Group, and residents’ associations.

Ng said her office suggested installing AI-assisted CCTV cameras at the roundabout to boost enforcement against illegal parking.
She added that police informed her that many vehicles are parked by the road from the school to the post office, especially from Monday to Friday between 2pm and 3pm, leading to congestion at the roundabout.
“I was made to understand that summons are still issued manually, so it makes it more difficult for police to act because some (drivers) manage to leave when they realise police presence,” she explained.

Ng said the AI CCTV system would allow real-time monitoring and detect vehicles that stop too long at certain locations.
“For example, if a car stops for more than three minutes, the system will assume it is parked. The AI can read vehicle registration numbers and record the time of offence,” she said, adding that the footage would be sent to police for further action.
On a related matter, Ng said MBSJ has stipulated that each tree felled for the roundabout upgrade must be replaced with 10 new trees to ensure environmental sustainability.
