SHAH ALAM, April 19 — The Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package, which was announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on Thursday, is seen to be especially beneficial to students and families, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman.
Papparaidu said among the package’s five focuses is a free breakfast scheme for Selangor’s hundreds of students to ensure their basic needs.
“Praise to the state government which acted to provide free food to students across Selangor, showing that our government is highly effective and concerned about the consequences of this global issue.
“(The free breakfast scheme will be launched in) more than 850 schools no matter secondary or primary. This is a noble, good effort,” he told Media Selangor.
Papparaidu said the initiative will be undertaken in tandem with Selangor’s 12 local authorities to ensure the aid reaches needy students statewide.
“We will use the local authorities as go-betweens. Soon, we may announce details, or during the state assembly later,” he added.
On Thursday, Amirudin announced the RM131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package to help the state face the effects of the West Asia geopolitical crisis that has pressured the economy and living costs globally.
The package’s first phase, which starts in June, focuses on matters closest to the people such as strengthening food supply and controlling inflation.
According to Amirudin, the package uses allocations under the 2026 Selangor Budget to ensure targeted aid for vulnerable groups.
Among other initiatives under the package is an additional RM5 million for Ehsan Rahmah Sales, which are held in state constituencies every month, to ensure the people have access to essential goods at affordable prices.
The state government’s free breakfast programme, meanwhile, will be launched in 873 schools in August, and is set to benefit thousands of students daily.
The package also includes RM100 Kita Selangor vouchers for 50,000 recipients for six months to help them and their families manage their living costs.
