KUALA LANGAT, April 12 — More than 10,000 people have gained employment since 2022 thanks to the state government’s JobCare Career Carnival, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman.

He added that this figure represents those recruited during the carnival tour across nine districts, including the Special JobCare Carnival and JobCare Premium.

“The success of this carnival has made us proud, with over 4,000 gaining employment last year alone through live interviews.

“I urge all jobseekers, including (fresh) graduates, to attend these interviews. Take this opportunity first to start working and then add to your (marketability) with experience,” he said when met at the Kuala Langat leg of the JobCare Carnival tour at College MCS in Banting yesterday.

Previously, Papparaidu said 30 companies are participating in the career carnival, along with the Selangor branch of the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO).

He added that 4,348 jobs are being offered with salaries up to RM12,000.

Administrative executive Thurkatharshini Ramu, 27, said she attended the carnival to look for a new role and to accompany her younger sister, who is a fresh graduate.

“I work in administration and want to try a new place, and at the same time improve myself to be better.

“Carnivals like these help make finding jobs easier because I don’t have to visit too many places, especially since fuel prices are going up,” she added.

Human resources executive Laila Atiqah Raduan, who works at logistics firm Evolution Commerce Sdn Bhd, said the company offers more than 10 roles including lorry and van drivers.

“We are a courier company and need more workers. They don’t need to bring their résumés, but just come with their licences, and if they are qualified, they will be hired.

“This career carnival is good because it is a platform that (makes it) easier for both parties and (hiring personnel) can meet candidates in person,” she added.

Meanwhile, Papparaidu said the state government is committed to ensuring Selangoreans gain employment and aren’t burdened by effects of the West Asia conflict.

He added that Selangor will keep up the JobCare Carnival to offer income opportunities and aid the people’s survival.

“If everyone gets jobs that match their education level, of course the poverty rate can be lowered, but our priority is to ensure the people’s welfare no matter their job.

“That is why our focus is on stabilising incomes even during a crisis. The career carnival, organised with Selangor SOCSO, is among the state government’s initiatives,” he said.

Papparaidu also urged those self-employed to make SOCSO contributions for their own welfare in case of accidents.

“If there is a workplace accident, the company makes (SOCSO) contributions, but if one is self-employed it would affect their family’s income, especially if their wives don’t work and children are in school.

“We recommend that they contribute (to SOCSO) and if there are accidents, SOCSO will help affected families,” he said.

The state government has planned nine JobCare Career Carnival tour legs for this year, with it having kicked off in Kuala Langat, to extend job opportunities to Selangoreans.

The carnival aims to offer 40,000 jobs across various sectors, and promote two main segments — Special JobCare Carnival and JobCare Premium.

Last year, when tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the career carnival tour would be improved for this year, including with certification and skills development programmes.

Amirudin said RM1 million is allocated for the initiative, in an effort to decrease the unemployment rate.
