PJ rolls out four grants for safer, greener communities

SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Residents and community groups here can now apply for four grant schemes aimed at improving neighbourhood safety and advancing sustainability initiatives.

The PJ Neighbourhood Security Grant (PKKPJ) 2026 is among the key programmes offered, focusing on strengthening security measures in residential areas.

Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the grant was introduced to support local efforts in maintaining safe neighbourhoods.

Jamaliah, who is also the state executive councillor for environment and public health, said the initiative is intended to ensure residential areas remain secure, especially as more communities adopt gated and guarded concepts.

She said the funding can be used by residents’ associations to upgrade closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, improve lighting in dimly-lit areas and support patrol activities.

She added that residents’ feedback indicates safety has improved and crime has declined following the installation of security cameras.

Applications for the PKKPJ grant are open until April 14 via the designated online portal.

The scheme is open to residents’ associations, Rukun Tetangga groups, joint management bodies and village community councils. Applicants who received the grant last year must submit reports on their previous activities before reapplying.

Also available is the Assessment Tax Rebate Scheme for Green Homes, which provides rebates to homeowners adopting environmentally friendly practices.

Open until May 31, the scheme requires applicants to meet criteria across five areas — water usage, biodiversity, waste management, transportation and energy. Applications must be submitted through the e-Rebat platform.

Meanwhile, the PJ SEED 8.0 grant offers between RM5,000 and RM50,000 to support community-based projects.

Jamaliah said the initiative was expanded following the Covid-19 pandemic to encourage greater community participation, including activities such as urban farming and the development of shared green spaces.

“We wanted to activate the community to have green spaces,” she said, as reported by The Star.

Eligible projects under PJ SEED include public awareness programmes, community services, infrastructure improvements and networking initiatives. Applications are open until May 31.

All three schemes — PKKPJ, the Assessment Tax Rebate Scheme and PJ SEED — are offered by the Petaling Jaya City Council.

Separately, the Pro-Community Grant 4.0 under the Bandar Utama constituency supports programmes organised by local community groups.

The grant is open to registered organisations such as residents’ associations, Rukun Tetangga groups, village committees, joint management bodies and management corporations.

At the event, MBPJ Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing assistant director (administrative and green technology) Nur Wahidah Zakaria briefed attendees on the PJ SEED grant and the assessment tax rebate scheme.

Interested applicants are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria before applying.
