More upgrades planned for pedestrians in Taman Universiti

SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — More infrastructure upgrades are being planned in Taman Universiti, Petaling Jaya, including another walkway and pedestrian crossing, said Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei.

She added that the proposal was made following the completion of a 400m walkway along Jalan SS3/29, according to a Star Metro report.

She said allocations under Projek Selangor Penyayang (PSP) would be redirected towards upgrading public facilities and addressing infrastructure issues.

“We are reallocating PSP funds initially intended for this area to upgrade a basketball court in Jalan SS1/19, which is in poor condition. We are also looking at carrying out roof gutter works at two blocks at Sea Park Apartments, as well as addressing septic tank and sewage issues there,” she explained.

Lim said the new walkway would make it easier for residents to access nearby shops, the weekly night market, and the relocated bus stop.

The 400m path, which links the Jalan SS3/29-Jalan SS3/66 junction with Jalan SS3/80, was built at a cost of RM95,063.30.

Prior to the upgrade, residents had to navigate an uneven, muddy stretch of grass or walk along the main road.

Taman Universiti resident Balachandran Pillay, 84, said the new path has made the route safer and more convenient, especially for elderly residents who frequently use it to reach the market.

The nearby bus stop was relocated at a cost of RM82,000, funded by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Both projects were carried out by contractors appointed by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), following applications by Lim’s office and MBPJ Zone 20 councillor Ong Yew Thai.

Ong said he will apply for funding next year to build another walkway connecting SMK Sri Permata to the intersection near Jalan Majlis.

A pedestrian crossing near Jalan SS3/80 is also being considered to provide a continuous pedestrian connection to the new walkway.
