PETALING JAYA, July 26 — Five sports facilities managed by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) have been chosen as official venues for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA, which start next month.

The venues are the MBPJ Football Stadium (men’s football), MBPJ Hockey Stadium (women’s hockey), MBPJ Astaka Sports Complex (squash), Kelana Jaya Sports Complex (tennis), and MBPJ Arena Sports Complex (BMX).

Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said MBPJ is honoured to be granted the Strategic Sports Facilities Partner title and to host several events that gather athletes from across the country.

“The selection of these facilities reflects the standard of MBPJ’s sports infrastructure, which meet the requirements to host prestigious sporting events.

“(It also) demonstrates the local authority’s continued commitment to supporting the Selangor government’s aspiration of making the 2026 SUKMA and Para SUKMA a success,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Zahri and state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi officiated the 5km SUKMA 2026 Torch Run at Dataran Petaling Jaya, which drew about 800 participants.

At the event, the SUKMA torch was handed over by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) to MBPJ, symbolising the continuation of the relay between all 12 local authorities in Selangor.

The SUKMA torch will be passed on to the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) and end its journey with a handover to the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) on August 9.

SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24 with 469 events in 37 sports, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14 with 316 events in 10 sports.

The opening ceremony will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan in Shah Alam.
