SHAH ALAM, March 19 — A total of 825 members of Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS) who were born in 2008 have received RM1,500 each in benefits, with the total payout exceeding RM1.23 million as of yesterday.
Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS) chief executive officer Gan Pei Nei said the first phase of payments, disbursed via electronic funds transfer (EFT) and e-wallets from March 15, was made to beneficiaries born between January and March 2008.
“For those born in January, February and March 2008, 1,651 recipients will receive approximately RM2.4 million, which will be disbursed in stages from March 15 to 30,” she told Media Selangor.
Gan said the disbursement is carried out in four phases based on recipients’ birth months. Early claim submissions are encouraged to avoid delays.
“The main condition for beneficiaries is that they must reach the age of 18, with the distribution carried out according to their date of birth.
“For example, those born from April onwards will receive their payments in the second phase, based on their respective birth months,” she said.
Tawas is a welfare initiative by the state government that provides financial assistance in the form of a savings fund for children born in the state. The funds are claimable once the child turns 18.
According to Gan, 21,295 TAWAS members born in 2008 are eligible to receive RM1,500 this year, with recipients given up to one year to submit their claims.
“TAWAS is a trust fund established to support the development of future generations in Selangor. If a claim is not made within the stipulated period, the funds will be returned to the state government for further action.”
Gan also urged parents and guardians to check the latest information and submit their applications on the YAWAS website or its other platforms to ensure a faster and smoother disbursement process.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said TAWAS reflects the state government’s commitment to empowering the younger generation and ensuring every child in Selangor has a stable start to life.
He said that TAWAS, introduced in 2008, is starting to show results, with beneficiaries who received the School Entry Assistance Programme in Year One now receiving payouts upon reaching the age of 18.
